This blog is about exploring seventeenth-century places and spaces, and the ways in which they were conceived, imagined, built and inhabited by people from that era.
Olivia Smith started Airs, Waters, Places in 2008, when she was a PhD student in London interested in the interplay between early modern science, philosophy and literature. She now works at St John’s College, Oxford as a postdoctoral researcher on the Balzan project ‘Literature as an Object of Knowledge’.
Daisy Hildyard joined the blog in 2010. She is currently researching the idea and substance of clean air in early Royal Society papers, for her PhD at Queen Mary, University of London. She is from Yorkshire and lives in London.
